As we get closer to October, we begin to have the start of the cooler mornings, earlier sunsets, leaves beginning to change and all the flannel outfits in full swing. As for me, I am 100% a summer girl who loves the sunshine and heat. However, living in the Midwest, it is inevitable summer will be a fond memory and fall will be here to stay. So, I guess I shall embrace the fall vibes and enjoy what this time of year has to offer. The best way to do that is to share the things I do like about the fall season and hopefully this will get me and you (if you aren’t already) in the autumn spirit. So here are my top five things I would suggest taking part in.
- Going to the Apple Orchard is always a must! We are lucky to have several options in Rockford and surrounding areas. The orchards can give individuals or families an opportunity to pick apples, conquer a corn maze, take a wagon ride, or maybe snack on some treats. Apple cider donuts are typically a favorite! Another favorite is the Pumpkin Patch in Caledonia. I know for me it has a lot of nostalgia from when I was a child. They have a plethora of activities you can do as a family that will for sure make for some great memories.
- If you are a coffee drinker, adding pumpkin spice to your drink is definitely a fall feeling, or maybe mixing up a pumpkin frappe is more your jam. Either way, taking your morning caffeine to a fall level can be a delicious way to start your day! Adding a pumpkin dessert can always be a nice treat! Now if pumpkin spice isn’t your thing, maybe some candy corn or a caramel apple is a yummier option. On a healthier note, a pot of chili is another great fall staple for a yummy dinner choice.
- I can definitely not forget the chunky sweaters, flannels, and anything warm and cozy! If it has to be cooler temps, you might as well enjoy the warm cozy sweaters and cable knit blankets to wrap up in! Enjoying a bonfire with some warm cider is another fun thing you can plan and keep you warm while still enjoying the outdoors.
- Enjoying the beautiful leaves on the trees is a must! Going for a drive on a sunny fall day or weekend, seeing all the various colors of the leaves, is always so majestic. A family selfie with the gorgeous trees in the background can make for some beautiful memories captured.
- I love to enjoy the outdoors no matter what the season. Going for a hike is always a fun and inexpensive option. During fall, I always like hearing the sound of the crunchy leaves on the ground. There are so many parks/trails in the area that allow you to really enjoy nature. You can always take it up a notch and add a family scavenger hunt to your hike. You can try and find pinecones, acorns, yellow leaves, red leaves, birds, apples, spider webs, etc. This makes for a fun activity for all ages.
Well, I hope I have provided some ideas to help you celebrate the fall or at least make you embrace the fall spirit!
